As we transition from winter to spring, I wanted to take a moment to update you on the latest happenings at New Directions. March has been a particularly busy month for us, filled with both challenges and exciting developments.

As I think about the future, I pause to imagine what kind of world we will pass on to the next generation.

Westgate Resort’s Annual Acts of Kindness Initiative, where the best project completed by a resort in their local community, won New Directions a $10,000 grant.

Happy New Year! 2023 was a banner year for New Directions and I thank you for your part in making it our best year yet. Your generosity, volunteerism, and advocacy has meant so much to us this past year, and I can’t wait to see all that your efforts make possible in 2024.

It truly was the most wonderful time of the year for clients at at our shelters.

Mark your calendar for the the largest global day of giving, Giving Tuesday! Each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, millions from around the world make plans to support causes and organizations they care about.

On Wednesday, November 15th, New Directions of Horry County was recognized as a 2023 Angel Charity by the South Carolina Secretary of State, Mark Hammond.

For many, a shelter opening down the street from your home might be a cause for concern. But for Lisa Leitner, a former Bellevue, WA resident and current New Directions’ Board Member, it was an opportunity.

The Wells Fargo Foundation recently awarded New Directions a grant of $10,000 to fund our Pathways Program and provide over over 500 nights of shelter, meals, basic needs, and resources to those in crisis.

New Directions was honored to receive one of fifty-six grants awarded by the Waccamaw Community Foundation, as part of its annual Granting Day initiative.

New Directions was honored to be a part of the United Way of Horry County’s annual Day of Caring. Volunteers from all over Horry County spent the day completing dozens of projects at our shelters, including interior painting of the dormitory rooms at the Family Shelter, refinishing a deck at the Women’s Shelter, bushhogging and landscaping at the Men’s and Family Shelters, completing repairs at our Snug Harbor Transitional Apartment Facility, and pressure washing the exteriors of all five of our facilities.
