From the Desk of Kathy Jenkins - Q2
Thank You for Making Over the Edge 2024 a Success!
On behalf of New Directions of Horry County, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for those who participated in Over the Edge on September 7th, 2024. Whether you bravely rappelled down the 17-story Avista Resort or generously donated to the cause, your contribution has made a profound impact on the lives of those struggling with homelessness, poverty, and addiction in our community.
Because of your commitment, we were able to raise $68,000! These essential funds will provide shelter, care, and hope to those in need. The immediate impact of your efforts is already being felt, and we are deeply grateful for your role in this mission.
Not only was the event an unforgettable experience for all involved, but it also serves as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together. Every dollar raised is a step towards transforming lives, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Together, we are making a difference, and we look forward to your continued support as we work to create a brighter future for everyone in Horry County.
Save the Date for Compassion Through Fashion!
Please mark your calendars and save the date for March 1, 2025, for our 9th Annual Compassion Through Fashion - New Directions’ signature fundraising initiative. For the second year in a row, we will gather at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for an unforgettable evening where creativity and compassion take center stage. This year's event promises to be more spectacular than ever, with 25 + unique designs crafted from recycled, repurposed, and unconventional materials, showcased in a vibrant, competitive fashion show. Designers and models will compete for top honors, with 11 awards decided by a panel of local celebrity judges and the audience. Along with the runway show, attendees will enjoy drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, photobooth, and live entertainment. With over 500 guests expected to attend, this promises to be an extraordinary evening where fashion and compassion unite for a great cause. Tickets will be available in early January, 2025.
We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our grantors this quarter, whose generous contributions have been essential to advancing our mission. We are especially grateful to the Chapin Foundation, a valued partner of many years, for their grant contribution of $100,000. The Leon Levine Foundation has pledged a two-year grant commitment of $50,000 annually, while the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has contributed $30,000.
Their vital support empowers us to create lasting, meaningful change in our community.
With deep gratitude,
Kathy Jenkins
