Angie’s Story
Angie came to the shelter with her son Jeremiah after her landlord decided not to renew her lease, making her and her son homeless. Her son struggled with behavioral issues, and Angie had some mental health concerns of her own. The family shelter case manager worked to connect Jeremiah with behavioral health services and Angie with a doctor and mental health counselor. Angie’s mental health issue was resolved, enabling her to return to work. She saved her money and worked out some legal issues with her vehicle, allowing her to regain reliable transportation. She and her son moved out of our shelter and into their own apartment just before Christmas, but not without saying good-bye and expressing their gratitude. Angie and Jeremiah stopped by our administrative office to say thank you and pick up Christmas presents “from Santa” since, according to Jeremiah, he didn’t have their new address. Since leaving our shelter Angie continues to keep in touch with her case manager as she continues to thrive and experiences increased self-esteem and independence.
