Sarita’s Story

Just prior to COVID-19 becoming an issue, Sarita came to our shelter for help. She had no income and needed to file for disability, but without identification, and with government agencies (SCDMV, Vital Records) closed or working limited hours, this presented an additional challenge. Her Case Manager, working remotely due to COVID, worked diligently to help her obtain the necessary documents to fast-track her disability application. Sarita, quickly approved for disability, was able to use her COVID-19 stimulus check to be able to move into an apartment of her own.
