New Directions was honored to be a part of the United Way of Horry County’s annual Day of Caring. Volunteers from all over Horry County spent the day completing dozens of projects at our shelters, including interior painting of the dormitory rooms at the Family Shelter, refinishing a deck at the Women’s Shelter, bushhogging and landscaping at the Men’s and Family Shelters, completing repairs at our Snug Harbor Transitional Apartment Facility, and pressure washing the exteriors of all five of our facilities.

In Memoriam: Thomas Mangus Hudgins.

New Directions’ Board Treasurer, A Dear Friend, and Mentor

On September 19, 2023, New Directions’ Board Treasurer, Thomas Magnus Hudgins, passed away at the age of 83.

As the days shorten and temperatures cool, the phones at New Directions have started to ring almost nonstop. Calls from both those seeking help and those seeking to help are a constant reminder of how vital our efforts are and how essential our supporters are (you!) to make it all possible.

The ONE Cares Group team took on a huge project to replace the current storage solutions in our Family Shelter dorms with a new set-up to best utilize the space. 

17 past Compassion Through Fashion designs were showcased at the FAST Fest Fashion & Show & Concert benefitting New Directions. This event promoted the future of art, science, and technology along the Grand Strand and the evening event highlighted the forward-thinking creativity of our Compassion Through Fashion designers.

For Martha Sledge, serving on New Directions’ Board of Directors is “the right thing to do.”
